These are the 7 questions that you will be asked to answer during the novel study. You will be expected to answer six of the questions by the time we finish reading the novel.
Questions:
1) How has the setting (time and place) been used in this chunk to develop an emotional effect on the reader?
2) How does the author foreshadow future events in the book? What hints does the author give that add to the overall effect of the novel?
3) How does the author use language (description, imagery, metaphor, irony, humor, etc.) to make the story richer?
4) Identify the major and minor conflicts in the novel. How does the author develop these conflicts in this chunk of the novel?
5) Identify the major and minor themes found in this chunk. How does the author develop these themes?
6) Identify the major and minor symbols found in this chunk. How do these symbols help you to understand the theme of the novel?
7) Identify the author's use of allusion in this chunk? How do these references to other works, people, places, times, ideas, etc. help you to better understand the theme of the novel?
Remember!! When answering your chosen question, you will be expected to make direct and specific reference to the novel.
